Last AHPC Theme Round!

Hoi there!

The final theme round of the AHPC is live now. The theme for this bonus round is "Gamblers and Risk Takers".

The most evident character that fits this bill would be the famous Scoundrel Han Solo, but since I already entered him last year I chose to go with Lando for this round. As it happens this is a lucky coincidence since Stefan entered a brilliant rendition of Han as his entry. So now the two of them join the ranks of great gamblers.

Hawaii shirt anyone?

Hoi,

A few posts ago I have mentioned that I have finished some small projects last week and here's the first of them. It's a West End Games Star Wars Alien. I have forgotten what race or name he has, but painted him up blue. This one has been waiting on the to do pile for quite some time because I couldn't decide on the colour scheme to use. In the end I chose a sort of Hawaii shirt kinda look. And truth be told: I like it.

Now this isn't really a lot of an update picture wise, but I have some more news. Amongst the other finished projects is a unit of 6 A-wings which I have done up but not photographed I will do this when I have finished all my Star Wars snub fighters.The second unit finished is a pair of sprues of Late Napoleonic Brits. They were part of the Crisis 2014 goodie-bag and now finally painted up.  Last up are two pack-camels and their herders. These are 20mm Early War Miniatures also bought at the last Crisis. I am making headway through the pile nicely.

Let's see what's up next.

New Arrivals!

Hoi,

Guess what? Time for another, not so frequent update. The Painting Challenge still pretty much takes up most of my hobby time and blogging as well. The short of it is that I have managed to reach my 1000pts goal and have upgraded it one more time to 1300. When I reach that count, I am done. I truly like participating in the challenge, but I cannot keep pace with Illustrous competitors like Millsy, Dave D. and Tamsin who keep stunning me with huge pointbombs of contributions. Where they get the time from I have no idea!

Well anyway, this week two parcels arrived over here. the first is another West End Games Star Wars miniatures box. It's a pristine condition Imperial Forces box with some very nice figures in it. Most of the figures I already own, but in less then a great state and I missed the Dart Vader fighting pose.

Here's the box, it came complete with foam and leaflet (not shown).

Today a parcel from the US brought in the newest HäT testshots: British Peninsular Light- and Heavy Dragoons and WW1 Belgians. All 4 items are high on my wish-list so I am very delighted to find them on my doorstep.

When I get them painted I will of course put up the pictures either here or on the Challenge Blog ;-)

Woookie!

Hoi,

While painting the West End Games Star Wars Aliens featured some time ago, I also managed to paint my miniature version of Chewbacca. I'm not too sure I like either the model and my paintjob but here he is:

 Chewie has a hobby in capturing two legged Imperial Walkers so I have included shots of my Imperial AT-PT in this post.

It's a simple miniature and had/ has a lot of flash which I cannot easily remove.

Here are some more Aliens out of the West End Games Star Wars series for your enjoyment today! Some are obscure, some more recognisable, most are from A New Hope's Moss Eisley Cantina scenes.

First up is a guy (or girl?)  called Muftak:

I still have a lot of SW minis to do but these are well and done and have been added to the painted list and are now on show in my showcase .

Han shot first!

Hoi,

Yes you've got that right: another episode in our ongoing West End Games Star Wars saga. Today I bring you the most famous sci-fi-shoot-out victim of all times: poor old Greedo.

The figure is quite nice but suffers from the same symptoms almost all these West End Games mini's do: bad  detailing. Correct that what I mean to say is that quite a lot of detail is added to the miniatures but since there's loads of flash and casting-seams coupled with the lack of crispness of casting, the mini's are a pain to get right sometimes.

On the subject of getting it right: the colours used for Greedo's outfit are rather freely interpreted, good and decent colour pictures of this famous character are hard to come by so I had to make a sort of a judgement call; I hope you'll agree.

As far as the controversy, hinted at in the title of today's post, is concerned: Han did shoot first and it makes him a proper rogue and an even more proper scoundrel.

More Star Wars miniatures

More unpainted Star Wars miniatures have moved on into the "painted" cabinet. Today's post brings you some Bounty hunters and assorted Aliens.

Some of my favourite models in the West End Games series are Bosk and Dengar and here they are:

Less favourite are these droids IG 88 and 4-LOM.

Bib Fortuna and Weequay are no bountyhunters of course, but people on Jabba's staff.

Most characters in the West End series I recognise from some scene or other of the Original Trilogy, one of them I really had a hard time placing: Hammerhead (not known under this name, but I forgot how he's actually called).

In a Galaxy not that far away!

Some time ago I mentioned obtaining some great old OOP West End Games Star Wars figures. In the time between then and now I've been painting some of them up and thought I'd show them here. Now I have quite a lot of Tatooine flavoured stuff so I based them desert-fashion. That said I do not yet have anything resembling desert terrain so the figures are photographed on my usual grass matt which feels all wrong.

 Now without further ado:

I still have quite a lot of Tatooine themed figures awaiting basing and coating but had to order more bases from Renedra. Amongst these are about all the available Bounty hunters including the famous Boba Fett...
Talking philosophically about these miniatures: at the moment I am more into them from a collecting point of view. As such basing should not be a problem, but my present collection has two main angles. These are Tatooine, as already stated, and some space-station/ Star Destroyer kind of theme. The latter needs an all together different approach base-wise. No real decent bases are available so I need to get converting or get my friend Mark to laser me something. I might just know what that should be but I am keeping it to myself for now.

Anyway hope you like these and keep your eyes peeled for more in the (nearish)  future!
