IMPACT! 2016

Hoi,

Yesterday I was able to visit the IMPACT games convention in Eindhoven and it was a blast! Last year's event was cancelled due to the venue not being available and so a different, bigger and easier to reach location was found. The Hired Guns from Uden made a sterling effort in creating what I think is a very good all round wargames convention. Sadly I forgot to put a SD card in my camera so have only a few pictures but luckily more can be found on the IMPACT Facebook page and on Johan's blog. I arrived at 10.00u sharp and found the hall already busy with gamers doing demo's, playing tournaments and trading stuff.

The centre of the hall was filled with gaming tables while around them the traders were placed. All tables, yes absolutely all of them, looked very good. Some were real gems, like Ludwigs Arnhem table with scenery 3D printed by himself.

After doing two rounds I met up with Johan and JW and in the end we found ourselves in the bar with Rikh and Britt chatting away the time about just about anything more or less hobby related.

Finally we did another round or two and around 16.00 o clock we had to accept that time to say goodbye had come and we left for home.

As an afterthought, the trader in the background of the picture above had some Warhammer Historical books in his assortment, some of these I own myself like Shieldwall, Legends of the Old West and so on; they went for about €60,-! Man I did not know they were that hot on the market!

The swag I bought was pretty much this:
- A box of Wargames Factory's Saxon Thegns
- some resin scenery pieces of furniture etc
- a new brush and some Valejo Paints

Not worth a picture I am afraid but I have enough to paint anyway...

So a very nice day indeed with nice weather, meeting old- and making new friends!

Looking back at the 6th AHPC!

Hoi,

Over at the AHPC blog, the last posts of this years Challenge as far as us Challengers goes, are online. Mine is here if you're interested.
This weekend Curt will announce this years winners and that's a wrap for this year. I am really sad about this because it's a great voyage through our unpainted lead and plastic piles and getting to know a load of other painters.

Now I am sorry but I am going to blow my own trumpet for a bit here since: I ended in 10th place... Not really sure how I managed but I did. While I know my painting is by no means exemplary or special like Anne's or Sidney's or anyone else of the great people over at the AHPC (I could list literally dozens way better then me!) I enjoyed being part of a community who didn't care about that. Comments were always fair and constructive. It is really enriching to be part of this group of talented and kind people.

For me not being a native-English speaker is sometimes hard, since I have a bit of dark- and sarcastic humour which often doesn't translate well from Dutch into English.
So if I have, unwittingly, caused offense: I do apologize, this is never my intention.

Again a great big THANK YOU, to Curt, Lady Sarah, The Minions and all Challengers for a great 3 months.

The first of the Saxons...

Yep it happened to me again...as I told a few posts back, at the Poldercon I was converted to play Dux Britanniarum, a game by TooFatLardies. It's great fun and rather elegant in it's simplicity. At the Poldercon Peter, the gentleman doing the demo, kindly provided us with a free Gripping Beast plastic Dark Age warriors sprue and 4 of the miniatures from this have now been painted as my Saxon Missile troops (with slings).

As usually happens I have now ample figures in both plastic and metal, to start 3 armies for my new Dark Ages project. These are Northmen (Vikings), Saxons and Carolingians. More on my plans later, for now just take a look at these and let me know what you think.

Last AHPC Theme Round!

Hoi there!

The final theme round of the AHPC is live now. The theme for this bonus round is "Gamblers and Risk Takers".

The most evident character that fits this bill would be the famous Scoundrel Han Solo, but since I already entered him last year I chose to go with Lando for this round. As it happens this is a lucky coincidence since Stefan entered a brilliant rendition of Han as his entry. So now the two of them join the ranks of great gamblers.

Final regular posts for the AHPC!

Hoi,

Yesterday the final duo of regular posts for the AHPC have gone online. I decided to go out with a bang and post two point-bombs in order to gain my 1500 points target. One could use the links below to see these.

Equally happy with finishing all of these mini's, painted over a longer stretch of time, I can now conclude the Challenge. I am contemplating whether I would like to enter the last bonus round theme or not since the deadline is due tomorrow already... perhaps I will.

A more complete round-up of this year's Challenge will follow later, since I am pretty much convinced that Curt will ask us to write up a "all miniatures painted during the Challenge post" after the final conclusion of the event itself.

In the meantime, the latest batch of miniatures for my Dark Ages Dux Britanniarum project arrived from the Beast yesterday so I am over my head in Anglo-Saxons, Norsemen and Carolingians more on those later as well!
