Ligny all over again...

Hoi,

Today Koen and I fought a rematch of Ligny using the excellent Black Powder rules. In short the game went like this, we deployed about equal forces opposite of each other with some houses and shrubbery between the forces. My plan was to deploy slightly more troops on my right flank to attack Koen's rather weak left and from there roll his line up. Therefore I posted some crack troops with my sole gun on my left and kept the troops there stationary. The first 3 turns Koen remained in place and let my right flank near his left all the while trying to shoot me off the planet with his two batteries. Koen's shooting however turned out to be pretty ineffective throughout the whole battle. At first it appeared that my flank attack was working but at two rather crucial moments I blundered and was unable to press home my attacks and Koen valiantly countered my attacks. Things went from bad to worse when I consequently failed not 1, not 2 but even 3 break tests and the units in question were annihilated on the spot. Meanwhile the French Garde had attacked my left and was decimating that as well, it appeared that by bungling my crucial rolls I had fed my troops to the French peace-meal.  Oh well...

In the end we had a very enjoyable game and Koen was able to use some of the units he had painted up for the first time. The funniest moment was when one large unit of French Line infantry broke and ran pretty much along the entire length of the table while the Garde was in front of them beating ten colours of poo out of my Prussians. Both the veteran French and Prussians looked down on the fleeing Marie-Louises in contempt.

Ma Petite Fille...

...as Boney called them, here are some pictures of a French Napoleonic artillery piece I recently finished. All figures are HäT as are the gun and ammo cart. The only thing not HäT are the piled muskets which are from the Revell RFA set.

Ho ho hoplites!

Hoi,

Okay that's a corny title for today's update but it's just one of them days... Feeling a bit under the weather and I've just bunged up the decal on the shield of the hoplite below. Here are the first testers for my 28mm Ancient
Greeks.

First up is a picture of the piper and one finished hoplite

Next up: 3 more shots of the hoplite on his own

I am not satisfied by far, the base is off, the shield decal is rubbish and I missed a line on the helmet (which I have corrected on the model already). Well anyway that's what we have test-figures for.

A big step forward...

...or is it backwards?

Whether you like or dislike the 28mm scale figures, I have some pictures of my very first 28mm plastic Greeks for you. I have put together a unit of Classical Greek Hoplites from a kit made by Immortal Miniatures http://www.immortalminiatures.com/ The kits are tremendous fun and go together very well. I have all 3 different boxed sets. Each one presents you with a certain amount of basic sprues which are in every box and then some sprues with conversion parts to give that extra flavour to your troops. Also included in the box are a booklet with lots of useful information, a sprue with plastic bases and a sheet of decals for your shield-designs, very good value for your money.

For aesthetic reasons I chose to mount the figures on GW regimental and 25x25mm bases. The arms with shields I have fixed to wire in order to get to the figure better when painting.

The Prussians are Coming!

Hoi,

Today brings you some pictures of HäT's Prussian Reserve Infantry  When starting out I really was convinced I'd be able to paint them up in one evening, since they wear a very straight forward and simple uniform. It turned out to be a bit different because the level of details and the amount of kit they wear is pretty hefty.

Anyway without further ado here we go:

WIP French Hussars

Hoi,

Since my Napoleonics are very much in flavour I've decided to show you some WIP pictures of my French 5th Hussars.

All of the figures are Revell Chasseurs of the Guard and Italeri Hussars, these form the basis for most of my hussars. I did some headswaps with HäT and Bruno Arnall heads.

Back view. I still need to do the shako's some details like the cockades, hair and buttons. Then I need to do the horses... I HATE painting horses!
