Hoi,
Yes people this is yet another GW rant. Perchance I happened to stumble along a message stating GW had announced their "new" releases for the Sisters of Battle, an army for which I own a sizeable force. Curious whether they had made a new plastic kit, I went over to the GW site and looked in utter astonishment at their "new" sets... These entail just the plain old metal figures, but that's not what shook me to the core of my hobby-soul, that was the price they dared ask.
Here's a squad of 10 of my Sisters of Battle:
For this meagre basic set of 10 troopers they dare ask 52.25 pounds Stirling, that's a freaking €61.81!!! Are they insane?
Yes people I used more then one exclamation mark, which according to Terry Pratchett, is a sign of insanity. Have you got any idea just jow many 1:72 troops I can buy for €62,-?
Okay, if I hadn't already promised myself I would paint up the remaining GW models in the unpainted pile and never again to buy anything GW, now is the time I make that statement again.
Sorry to be ranting like this but I just had to get this off my mind.
Cheers Sander

Wellingtons Indian Campaign: Cavalry
Hoi,
Just before life got busy I completed some testers for my friend Uwe's Hagen Miniatures line. Featured here are the 19th Light Dragoons and 4th Native Cavalry. The horses are Italeri Scots Grey's Horses.
19th Light Dragoons
4th Native Cavalry
No close ups unfortunately, they turned out overexposed. The riders of both sets are basically the same figures with head-swaps. Cleverly done I guess, I like the Light Dragoons best for their very colourful dress.
Uwe has assured me they are researching horses to go along with the riders as we speak. Now since they keep adding to all their home-made ranges, they might eventually include a trumpeter.
Cheers Sander

Anne's Great Giveaway!
Hoi,
Even though I'm still suffering from painters'block and even have withdrawal signs I cannot pass up the opportunity to promote Anne's Great Give-away.
Anne from O'Leary Miniatures has a big Give-Away in cooperation with author Patrick Hatt who is kindly sponsoring part of it.You can find Mr. Hatt's Amazon Writers Page at http://www.amazon.com/Pat-Hatt/e/B00AGFMYVC.
Anne has been an inspiration for me blog-wise for as long as her blog exists which isn't actually that long and will continue to be so. I'm not after any particular prize from the contest, they are all great to have, but rather join in for the general feel of the thing.
So spread the joy and enter the contest!
Cheers Sander

Dark Age?
Hoi,
As you might have noticed the blog has been silent for a while now. This is mainly due to the fact that Real Life has caught up with me big time, the Summer Holidays are long over so work at school has resumed in all its ferocity and more importantly I have managed to finish my study Master in Education History. If all goes well I will be receiving the certificate on September 26th.
Besides all this I must admit to having had a minor Dark Age regarding painting figures. My paint-desk is filled with rather too many Dark Angels and some Battletroops DC infantry as well as 73, yes that's SEVENTY-THREE Star Wars 1 inch fighters from Studio Bergstrom. So you can imagine that I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment and do not quite know where to start...
All things will be all-right in some time I'm sure.
Cheers Sander

Assemble the Fleet!
Hoi,
The X-wing saga continues. Due to some trick of faith Mark and I were able to obtain a large collection of Star Wars goodies.
Our haul included:
- two startersets
- 2x Slave 1
- 1 x Millennium Falcon
- 1x TIE advanced
- 1x TIE interceptor
- 1x X-wing
- 1x Ywing
- 1x A wing.
This lot was complemented by the arrival of a Kenner Imperial Star Destroyer yesterday. The fleets now look something like this:
Imperial "fleet"
Mark will be playing the Alliance and I myself will be collecting the Empire. I specially love the Interceptor (or squint). One of the Firesprays will remain in the original Slave 1 colour-scheme, the other one I will repaint when I find an appropriate scheme.
Cheers Sander

Stay in attack formation!
Hoi,
While Mark and I have played several small X-wing games over the last couple of weeks, some time ago we managed a larger battle. Larger in the sense of time rather then size of forces involved. What we basically did was play the first mission from the core rulebook with customized forces. I played the Dark Side with Darth Vader in his TIE advanced and two TIE aces to go along. Mark had two x-wings and an Y wing.
The game was pretty horrible for me since Vader lasted about 3 or 4 turns before being smoked and the rest of the TIE's were dead as well after several more turns. Because new TIE's (with lesser pilots) would enter play from my edge the game kept going but the Alliance shuttle eventually escaped pretty much unharmed.
We had some hilarious moments especially when several of our craft lined up accidentally in a ridiculous polonaise.
May the force be with you!

The Corsican Ogre
Hoi,
Many people I know, think I'm a big fan of Napoleon since I'm interested in the Napoleonic Wars: well I am NOT! I am a staunch Wellingtonian. That said I can not escape making a command stand for all of my Napoleonic Armies in time. Therefore I also need a stand depicting Napoleon and his staff, final stimulation to do just that was the release of the great Zvezda set of the French general staff. The set itself doesn't include a figure of Napoleon but I had an Italeri spare figure lying around. Here are the pictures I took from the completed stand.
Front view:
Side views:
back view:
The uniform the Emperor wears here is not that spectacular since it's mostly covered by his greatcoat, but it's the Grenadier's of the Guard Colonel's coat I tried to depict.
Some close ups:
My camera died on me and ever since I have been using my wife's camera. Somehow all the pics I take with it end up over exposed, can't seem to find the right settings.
Well I am overjoyed this monstrous little project is finished and in the showcase, on to the next one!
Cheers Sander
